The Department of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics was established in 1969 during the founding of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering as the Department of Electric Drives, originally emerging from the Department of Electrical Engineering created at the founding of the Technical University of Košice in 1953. Over the years, the department's name has been changed several times to more accurately reflect its activities and development. Today, it bears the name Department of Electrical Engineering and Mechatronics.
The professional and practical experience of the department's staff covers a broad field of electrical engineering, including the automotive industry, the electrical engineering industry, mechatronics, and robotics. These competencies are also reflected in the department’s teaching and research activities.
Currently, the department is responsible for education and research in the field of electrical engineering, particularly in power and industrial electronics, electrical machines and instruments, sensors, electromechanical systems, controlled drives, control systems, industrial and automotive mechatronic systems, and robotic drive systems. The department offers all levels of higher education, including one bachelor’s degree program, one master’s degree program, and one doctoral study program.
